I am embarrassed to say, not being well informed about art, that I never heard of Thomas Eakins. I wonder now where I have been all of these years as I have become an immediate fan of this artist who is so meticulous with his colors and lines and all so amazingly precise. There was no comparison made to Maxfield Parrish in thisbook but I could not help but find a similarity between Eakins and Parrish in terms not only of color and precision but also in the use both of these artists had in working with photographs. What was so educationally laid out was the hard work of putting a painting together specifically in terms of measurements. It was also fascinating to read of the agony Eakins went through due to the extreme prudishness of the times he lived in as applied to nude modelling. My only objection to this book is that 495 pages is more than I needed to absorb the genius of this artist's work. For someone who is more of an advanced student of art than I am, the entire book must be a complete treasure! I can now say with authority I know a lot more about art and artists than Idid before reading this extremely well written book so I am grateful for Mr. Kirkpatrick for putting this together!
