The Getty Museum of Art has an interesting series in which an author takes one single painting in the Getty's collection and discusses it in depth, comparing it to other paintings by the same artist or comparing the painting to other similar paintings by other artists. This one didn't work for me as well as the book on the painting by greuze, also in this series, but I still enjoyed it very much.
